Sunday School

Ephesians 6:4 God clearly defines parents’ responsibility to “bring [your children] up in the training and instruction of the Lord.”  At Ascension, we are pleased to assist parents with this responsibility by nurturing them in our regular Sunday School classes.

Children from 3 years of age through 5th grade are taught age-appropriate lessons from God’s word in a fun and active way. They enjoy the story each Sunday, sing songs and do activities that are intended to reinforce the simple lesson for the day. The teachers lovingly introduce the children to their Savior, Jesus.

For children in Preschool through 5th grade, Sunday school begins with a joint opening that will include a story, frequently explored in detail with the help of a puppet, singing and sometimes a video. Following the joint opening they will be given the opportunity to explore the lesson with a variety of senses. Some weeks it will involve drama, some weeks crafts, and other weeks games. We seek to engage the children through a variety of activities to help them grasp what God’s Word teaches.

When children are in sixth grade they will begin confirmation instruction with Pastor Roloff in which they will focus on learning and applying the the central teachings of the Bible to their daily lives.  They will study the Apostles' Creed and the Lord's Prayer and the 10 Commandments and the Sacraments.  We devote a whole year to understanding how all that God did in the Old Testament points ahead to the fulfillment of his promises in our Savior, Jesus Christ in the new Testament. They will memorize Bible verses so that the truth of God's Word is ever in their hearts and minds to comfort them in trial, to confess Christ to the world, and defend their faith with gentleness and respect.

Sunday School is held Sunday mornings, between Labor Day and Memorial Day, from 9:45 a.m. - 10:45 a.m.

Every year our Sunday School supports a different mission to share the gospel of Jesus.  This year we are gathering our offerings in support of the Martin Luther College International Student Aid Fund, which supports international students who are training to be pastors and teachers here at home and around the world.  Learn more about MLC and the International Student Program by clicking on the logo below.
